How To Irritate Fluxx Players |
Generally you'll be playing Fluxx just for the heck of it, because you're in the
laundromat or eating lunch or road-tripping or whatever and there's nothing else really to
do. So you'll probably have several friends with you who've all played before and
have all reached a decent level of "skill" (read: know most if not all of the
cards by heart). In this case, playing to be obnoxious is at least as much fun as
winning. Here are some tips:
- Play Hand Limit 1, forcing everyone to pick one card that they want to keep. Then
play Taxation, so that they have to give you that all-important last card.
- On your turn play a Hand Limit or Keeper Limit and then trash it. Everyone else
will have reduced hand / Keepers, and will hate you.
- In a two-player game it's possible to take several turns in a row with judicious usage
of the Lose A Turn card (and, of course, Play All). The key is that the Lose A Turn
card goes into the hand of whoever it was played on. The sequence goes something
like this:
Lose A Turn
Hand Limit Zero
Pilfer the Trash
Remove the Hand Limit Zero by any means except Rules Reset (so as not to lose the Play
All)
Lose A Turn
Taxation
Lose A Turn
Use What You Take
Lose A Turn
Trade Hands
Lose A Turn
At this point you're out of cards, so you've Played All (like the rule says), but you've
got five more turns coming to you. (Technically, the other player has lost five
turns, but in a two-player game, same difference.) In a game with more than two
players you can use this trick to turn Lose A Turn into Take Another Turn (by making
everyone else lose a turn).
- It's less effective, but in Second Edition you can Take Another Turn and then Pilfer the
Trash for yet another turn.
- Along the same lines, Hand Limit 2 and then Taxation twice. (You may wind up with
a one-Keeper Goal and that Keeper!)
- In order to win on the first turn, all you require is a Play 3/4/All, a one-Keeper Goal,
and the appropriate Keeper. This is of course rather unlikely (I've never seen it),
but there's a certain niftiness in the idea.
- Have separate noises associated with each type of card ("Whump" for Keepers,
"Yar" for Rules, "Boingk" for Actions, and "Ooh" for Goals
are my personal standards). This may well drive the other players batty.
